What are Oil-Less Turbos?
Oil-less turbos (or, in longer form, oil-less turbochargers) are a modern alternative to standard turbos (or turbochargers). In short, turbochargers are turbine-powered forced induction devices found within an automobile’s inner mechanical workings.
The purpose served by these devices is to increase the efficiency and power output of an internal combustion engine. These benefits are achieved due to the compressor’s ability to force more air to the combustion chamber. This also means that more fuel can make its way to the combustion chamber as well. In standard turbochargers, this process is powered by a lubricating oil. However, oil-less turbos do not require oil at all. This innovation offers a modern take on mechanical efficiency, which promotes durability and longevity in a totally new way.

The Benefits of Oil-less Turbos
How can your automobile benefit from making the switch from an oiled turbocharger to an oil-less alternative? The results may shock you!
Switching to an oil-less turbo can truly make all the difference. You’ll no longer have to run an oil pressurized line for the purpose of lubricating the turbo’s bearings. The car’s exhaust will no longer be at risk of heating the oil pressurized line. Replacing an inline oil filter and running a return oil line will also become things of the past, leaving less room for error in your builds. Precise — and often tricky — angle placement of the turbocharger will also no longer be a concern.
As an added bonus, oil-less turbos can be installed anywhere that the devices fit — at any angle or placement. This is great news for mechanics and car connoisseurs looking to completely customize their vehicle’s mechanical workings.
The only downside of these devices is the fact that you will need to routinely grease the turbo. With all things considered, this is a very minor setback — especially when you take into consideration all of the other part replacements you will no longer have to worry about (i.e. replacing an inline oil filter).
Overall, oil-less turbochargers offer more benefits than disadvantages. In the modern era, innovation is the way forward. So why not toss outdated oiled turbochargers to the side and try something new?! The benefit of overall longevity makes the switch a no-brainer!
